Description

The Book of Azrael
For a thousand years, the Etherworld has known peace.
Until now.

Many centuries ago, desperate to save her dying sister, Dianna made a deal with Kaden, a monster far worse than any nightmare. Locked in servitude to him, she is forced to hunt down an ancient relic held by her most dangerous enemies: an army led by Samkiel, the World Ender.

After the Gods War, Samkiel hid from everything, denying his crown and deserting his people. Now, an attack on those he loves sends him back to the realm he never wished to return to, and into the sights of an enemy he had hoped to forget.

The Throne of Broken Gods
When I burn this world to embers, and you paint me as the villain, remember,
I really did try to be good . . . once.

Dianna is hellbent on revenge. As the last shred of her humanity is ripped from her, she decides to embrace her monstrous side and set the worlds alight.

Samkiel alone refuses to believe that she has become the monster that everyone else sees, and he'll do anything in his power to save her from herself, even if it means losing her.

With every realm now at risk from Kaden's army, and a myriad of new threats on the horizon, Samkiel can't afford to let his guard down. And as Dianna's thirst for blood only increases, he is running out of time to save them both . . .

The Dawn of the Cursed Queen
Ask her what she ripped from the very heavens.
And then ask her if she cares.

Betrayed and bloodied, The Hand has failed. After a desperate battle, Nismera, the Goddess of War, now rules the realms as the last remnants of Samkiel's power spill across the sky.

Desperate to keep Samkiel safe after almost losing him, Dianna is willing to give up everything to protect him, even if that means sacrificing their relationship itself. But that's not a risk Samkiel is willing to take, even as the stakes grow ever higher.

Do yourself a favour and avoid

Oh goodness, where to start. I bought this series as some escapism from my post graduate exam revision. In short, I would rather be revising than reading these books.
The publishing house have done the author a massive disservice and failed to invest in an editor, so the books are at least 50% longer than they need to be. The same points are hammered home ad infinitum, because the author is not able to trust that we spot a plot point when we’re bashed over the head with it the first eight times.
The actual plot and world building are fairly enjoyable but my GOSH we have to work so hard to get there.
The characters are interchangeable. I genuinely cannot tell which POV the chapters are written from without the names at the start. They have the same voice, there is no detail to their motives or driving forces. They are identical clones with identical phrasing.
And the main characters (who are meant to be thousands of years old, of course), have the communication skills of a teenager. Maybe that’s a unfair to teenagers. Even the good guy treats his friends like disposable tissues because he just has SO MANY FEELINGS (and yet can’t use his big boy words to TALK ABOUT THEM).
Please don’t allow my wasted hours to be in vain, read this review and save yourselves the pain of reading the books.
